Simon Twiston Davies joined the Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) as Chief Executive Officer in 2001. His role is to lead CASBAA in representing the interests of the pay-TV industry and related telecoms and new media companies in 14 markets across the region.

Before taking his current post Simon was the CEO of Kagan Asia Media, the Asian regional division of Kagan Associates.

Prior to joining Kagan the British-born Twiston Davies was a Hong Kong-based writer and editor. He specialised in the Asian television and telecoms industries from 1989 closely following the launch of more than 150 pay-TV channels and cable systems, as well as the increasing maturity of the terrestrial television market.

Simon moved to Asia in 1987 from Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he was based as a journalist.

Buheita Fujiwara is Chairman of IPA, Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan, an Independent Administrative Agency, where pursuing the mission to achieve the national goal of “Becoming the world’s most advanced IT nation.”

He graduated from Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo, and entered the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1964. He has played important roles in various posts within the Ministry, and left the Ministry from the Director General for International Trade Policy to become the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Bulgaria in 1992.

In 1995, he joined Sharp Corporation as a Corporate Executive Director and Group General Manager of International Merchandising & Sales Group, until he was appointed Chairman of IPA in July, 2003.

He also holds the Masters Degree (Masters of Art) from Yale University, USA.

Based in Alcatel Asia Pacific Regional Headquarters in Shanghai, Christian Gregoire is Senior Vice President Alcatel Asia Pacific in charge of North East Asia.

Christian first started working with Alcatel in 1991 as Special Advisor to the Alcatel Alsthom Technical Director, while he was still Technical Advisor to the French Atomic Energy High Commissioner. He joined Alcatel full-time the following year as Vice President of Alcatel Alsthom Recherche, overseeing research projects in Optics, software and power links and supplies.

In 1996, he was appointed Director, Intellectual Property of Alcatel. He created a department of experts to handle intellectual property issues relating to technology transfers, and acquisitions and divestitures. In 2000, he became Alcatel’s Director, R&D Strategy before being promoted to Vice President, Research & Innovation in October that year. He moved to Alcatel Asia Pacific in September 2002.

Christian started his career in 1982 as an Engineer with the French Atomic Energy Agency, before becoming a Visiting Professor at New York State University in 1988. He became Technical Advisor to the French Atomic Energy High Commissioner a year later.

Christian graduated with a degree in Human Sciences from the Sorbonne, Paris, France in 1975. In 1977, he obtained Master’s degrees in Mathematics and Physics from Paris VI University. He also got a PhD in Physics from the University of Orsay, France in 1982 and attended the School of Management at the French Atomic Energy Agency in 1991.

Tomokazu Hamaguchi, the President and CEO of NTT DATA CORPORATION, was born in 1944, earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University, and joined Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Public Corporation in 1967.
In 1988, He moved to NTT Data Communications Systems Corporation, of which name was changed to the current name in 1998, when it was spun off as a whole subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). 

Mr. Hamaguchi was promoted to a member of the board in 1995, and has been serving in the current position since 2003.

Mr. Hiraoka joined Nihon Univac in April 1980. (Nihon Univac and Burroughs merged to form Nihon Unisys in 1988)

He became corporate officer of Nihon Unisys in 2002 after serving as Sales Director of Energy Sales Division and Director of Business Aggregation Service Division.

Now he has an important role as Senior Managing Director & CIO of all Nihon Unisys Group IT System Division.

Dr. Jyh-Sheng Ke is currently the President/CEO of the Institute for Information Industry (III).

Dr. Ke joined III in 1983, and was immediately given the responsibility of the “Computer with Chinese Input/Output Capability” development. In his twenty- three years career at III, Dr. Ke has directed the research and development of a wide spectrum of advanced technologies for computer and communications products, led pioneering work in e-business and e-commerce platforms, multimedia communications technology development, as well as assisted the government in the promotion and development of the National Information Infrastructure.

Following this achievement in R&D, Dr. Ke continues to lead III in the support of the ICT industry in Taiwan with innovative R&D, software technologies and interoperability standards. Additionally, Dr. Ke drives III to promote the internationalization of Taiwan’s ICT industry and increase international collaboration.

Prior to his career with III, Dr. Ke was a senior engineer at ITT in the United States from 1978 to 1980. He subsequently returned to Taiwan as Associate Professor at National Taiwan University, and was also an Associate Research Member at the Institute of Information Science of Academia Sinica. In 1981, he took up the position of Head of Computer Science at Tamkang University, Taiwan. He currently also serves as the Chairman of the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, Taiwan.

Dr Ke obtained a B.S. Degree in Computer Science and Control Engineering from the National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan and, later, his Masters and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska and University of Illinois, respectively. In 2004, Dr. Ke was elected as a Fellow of Chinese Society for Management of Technology, Taiwan.

Dr. Shyue-Ching Lu is President of Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd.

He received the B.E. degree in engineering science from National Chengkung University in 1970 and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1976. After graduation, he joined Telecommunication Laboratories (TL), the research arm of the Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT), assuming positions such as research engineer, director & project manager, deputy managing director, and ultimately managing director of TL in 1986 and for the next 7 years. From 1993-1994, he was Director-General of Department of Posts and Telecommunications, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. He took the position of Deputy Director-General of DGT from July 1994 to June 1996. Dr. Lu was named to the present position on July 1, 1996 when Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. was established to sustain the operating responsibilities of former DGT during an organizational reshuffling to split the operational functions from the regulatory role.

Dr. Lu is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Dr. Murakami joined Nomura Research Institute (NRI) in 1968 and engaged in numerous research and consulting projects. After acting as Director of Social and Economic Systems Department and Technology Strategy Department in Research and Consulting Sector and Executive Fellow, he became member of the Board of Directors of NRI in 1996. After holding various positions, including director in charge of Internet Business Development and Knowledge Solutions, he became Representative Director and Executive Managing Director in 2001, to oversee the Consulting Sector, International Division and Corporate Research & Development. He assumed the present post of Chief Corporate Counselor of NRI in April 2002.

Recently Dr. Murakami chaired the committee to establish the next generation ICT policies for Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, “u-Japan (Ubiquitous Net Japan ) Policy”.
He serves as a member of various government committees, including the Information and Telecommunication Council and the Industrial Structure Council. He is Executive Steering Committee member of Global Business Dialogue on Electronic Commerce (GBDe) and is also chairman of the IT Governance Working Group of Nippon Keidanren.

Dr. Murakami earned a B.A. in Economics degree from Kyoto University, a Master of Public and International Affairs from University of Pittsburgh and a Doctor of Informatics from Kyoto University.

Dr. Murakami joined the Faculty of Policy Management in Keio University as a Guest Professor in April 2006.

Among other publications in English, he has authored (or co-authored) “Establishing the Ubiquitous Network Environment in Japan ”, “Ubiquitous Networks: The New IT Paradigm,” “Strategy for Creation”(also in Japanese, Spanish and Korean), “Global Insecurity,” etc. He has also written and edited numerous books and papers in Japanese.
