Spam (unsolicited electronic communications) (2003)
During meetings with the European Union and the US, Canadian and Japanese governments in early 2003, the GBDe was urged to develop a business response to the increasing problem of unsolicited electronic communication (spam).
The GBDe responded rapidly, hosting a meeting of spam policy experts in Ottawa in June 2003 to develop a clear picture of the current status of the problem and possible solutions. Following this meeting a position paper was developed and agreed by GBDe members and publicly unveiled at the CEO Summit in November 2003.
The GBDe policy provides a "tool box" approach to spam reduction
and has already earned strong praise from a number of key governmental
representatives.
